03 / Start and race pace
How the fleet left the line
Distance is the shortest GPS distance to the recorded start-line segment at the gun. Line position runs from pin (0%) to committee (100%). Speed at +10 seconds and the first-two-minute mean show who accelerated early; they do not determine OCS or official place. Official place comes from the published event results and is shown for context.

Compare every qualifying boat
Sort the speed windows to find late downwind pace, speed held into the turn, and early upwind acceleration. Retention compares final approach speed with earlier approach speed. It is a GPS proxy for a smooth setup, not a direct measure of sail handling.

How to read this
Speeds are GPS speeds averaged around each boat's closest approach to the gate. Gate distance is to the line between the two gate buoys when both are recorded, otherwise to the one recorded buoy. Rounding candidates follow the first windward mark and must pass close to the gate. Missing fixes or an incomplete track suppress a boat result. Sail handling is inferred from speed patterns, not observed directly. Ground speed includes current and GPS noise. A fast final approach with strong exit and rebuild speed is consistent with an efficient takedown and rounding, but the track cannot show when a sail came down or whether a maneuver was clean.
Sail 1114 replay gaps and start and pace summary use a second, on-board track. It agreed with the main GPS track to within a few metres and a fraction of a knot. Leeward rounding rows use the main GPS track.
Recorded fleet coverage is separate from official scoring. View official event results →
